# Is it possible to propagate a rotted orchid through the healthy roots…

Is it possible to propagate a rotted orchid through the healthy roots in its potting medium??

My friend gave me her orchid (phaleonopsis) and even though I told her I’ve had very little experience with orchids, she insisted I take it. Suffice it to say I’ve given it root rot. I’m attempting to propagate from the leaves of the plant because they had some stem attached (I don’t know if it will be enough, but I thought I’d try). There are still some healthy roots and I was wondering if it was possible to propagate with those? I’ve seen information on propagating with aerial roots or keikeis, but all that I have are the ones that were in the potting medium. Would this be possible?

The only way I am aware of propagating Phalanopsis is with keikis, tissue culture or good ol fashioned seeds. Unfortunately, I don’t think the leaves will do anything but it can’t hurt to try if you’ve already started. And it would be unlikely the base is strong enough to generate keikis.

Good luck
