# How and exactly where do I cut to prop this croton? I have cut under…

How and exactly where do I cut to prop this croton? I have cut under a node and plopped into H2O but the normally very stiff (like a Manila folder) leaf immediately goes limp and no roots ever form. I’ve tried twice. I want to prop this beauty so bad! Same question about my other croton, too, please?

I’ve propped my croton gold dust like that and it lived. Actually I gave it my mom and her cat killed it. I cut off a stem from the top long enough to pull off about 3-4 leaves (this ended up being about 4 inches long). Those nodes where the leaves were pulled off would go in water. Then there were still 3 leaves on top to get light. It also helped mine branch off. It grew 2 new branches. Yours look pretty young I’m not sure if they have enough length to cut from the top.
