# Question about transitioning to soil for you all! The first photo is…

_Posted by Ashley on 2026-10-24_

Question about transitioning to soil for you all! The first photo is of my ready-to-plant philodendron basil cuttings. I wanted to gift this to my mom. I ended up having to cut more off my mother plant because I had one vine that had gotten so long it was sitting on my kitchen counter. The other two photos are where the roots are currently for the second set of cuttings. All in all I have 17 cuttings to pot up for her in the hopes of giving her a full established plant. I am visiting her on 11/2 so I’d like to have it potted up by then. So I’ve got 9 days left!

Do you all think there is enough time for more roots to grow in on the second set? If she kept it moist would they continue to root in soil? She’s been caring for plants her whole life so she is able to continue care just fine.

Weekly water changes, root drops added, and living under grow lights

Side note, if I don’t take this to her on my upcoming trip, it’ll have to wait until Christmas. Which is fine but I really want to give it to her now.

Do you have a pothos you can snip off a piece and add to the second set? It’ll speed things up but it’ll be really tight in my opinion. You might be potting up the night before/day of kinda thing if they’re ready. Usually I see long enough-potable roots after 3-4weeks for my pothos/philo props

can add a pothos cutting to boost hormones but IMO this type of philo props and roots really well in soil.

you can also add those drops to your watering

Thanks yall, yes I have a pothos I can add to it! I’ll do that first thing in the morning. I have been putting root drops in. I think I had it overcrowded in the original container because this set took so much longer than the original set I had in water.
