Is my monstera dead and beyond hope or should I keep nursing him back to health?

I would take it out of soil, rinse and remove any rotted roots, then keep in water until a few leaves show up. If all the roots are rotten, then cut the stem and if the stem is brown inside it’s probably too far gone. But good luck!

Many thanks, exactly the reply/advice I was hoping for. Have followed your instruction and noticed some new root growth so 🤞🏼. Many thanks
