After bromeliads flower, they put ALL their energy into producing new pups and then die within a year. This means, if you're buying a flowered bromeliad in the store (as your neighbor did) you're already looking at a short lifespan considering it first bloomed at whatever gardening center that raised it, even before it arrived at the grocery store. And since you got it from your neighbor, it's likely to be reaching its last legs in your care.

That being said, not sure if its pups are supposed to look that pale. Bromeliads, like succulents, prefer infrequent watering (every 2-4 weeks), so it's possible you could have overwatered it with the intention of trying to nurse it back to health :(

Ill stop watering so often, when i got it the little identification tag thingy said to keep the soil moist and the center leaves with water in then, ive been watering once a week lol ill slow down on it though 😅

You should let the soil dry out almost completely between waterings. Also, a lot of bromeliads are epiphytes, which means they grow ON plants but are not parasitic. Epiphyte roots are short, and mainly function to attach the plant to its host rather than absorbing nutrients or water. Probably why you think your plant has "little to no roots," and definitely why you're instructed to water between the leaves (where bromeliads collect water in the wild)
