We purchased our home 3 years ago, which has a decent sized yard, and it came with many established beds. Some are herbs, most are considered edible or medicinal in some fashion, and only a few plants are poisonous. However, one of the beds is a raspberry patch that is roughly 40 feet long and 3 feet deep, running along a privacy fence. I do not know if the combination was planted intentionally, but that patch consists of well-established raspberries and well-established stinging nettle. Granted, even the stinging nettle has its uses but it makes harvesting The raspberries difficult. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this task easier, and thus less itchy? Is there any way to eradicate the stinging nettle without also harming the raspberries? Last year we pulled all the stinging nettle prior to berry harvest but that is time consuming and uncomfortable. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried gloves??? Removing it seems to have worked for you, so maybe use gloves. If it does touch you, maybe try the poison ivy method.

Yes to gloves, plus long sleeves. I'm hoping someone can tell me how to prevent the stinging nettle from growing back without destroying the raspberries.

I try to stay away from man made herbicides and only use as a last resort if nothing else works. To get rid of the nettle and something that is safe for raspberries you need 2,4-D amine 600. Don’t get it confused for the regular 2,4-D it will likely cause curling to the leaves of your raspberries. This should be done soon before the raspberry canes begin to actively grow and bloom.
hope this helps
