# I repotted my umbrella tree since I was changing the soil to a…

_Posted by Nik on 2026-07-27_

I repotted my umbrella tree since I was changing the soil to a tropical mix. I made a mix of perlite, tropical soil mix and peat moss. The new pot is bigger since I saw in the old pot the roots were climbing the wall. Now I’m noticing the bottom leaves are dying off and I thought that was fine but it’s seems to be a lot of them. As well overall seems droopy? I’m not sure if it’s shock, heat wave, water in the soil or pot too big. All help appreciated ☺️

Is there drainage in the pot?

Yep 👍

Could be a mixture of the shock and heat. When repotting losing leaves is almost inevitable. I would keep an eye on the roots though

How would I do that? Also it’s been slowing loosing the lower leaves for about two weeks still

Gently lift the plant from the pot, dust any soil away from the roots gently and look at them/feel them. If the roots are brown/black or are mushy instead of firm, then you have a problem

If it’s been two weeks and it hasn’t gotten better it’s likely a root issue

Okay thank you! I’ll check tomorrow! :)
