For indoors, ficus benjamina is the easiest plant I've ever had the pleasure of working with. For outdoor flowers, zinnias are easy and satisfyingly fast growers. For veggies, try tomato. African violets need a self watering pot but are otherwise very durable. If you want to get into orchids, phalenopsis are good starters for epiphyte types, and paphiopedilums are good for getting used to terrestrial orchids.

For indoor houseplants, pothos, philodendrons, and aglonemas/chinese evergreens are all some of my favorite starter houseplants/favorite overall houseplants! They have tons of varieties, too. They can all 3 tolerate somewhat lower light conditions but will grow best in bright indirect light (like by an east facing window) and I water all 3 when the soil is 50-75% dry. I check that they’re ready to water by sticking a chopstick 75% into the soil and seeing if it comes out clean/dry; if it comes out with any soil or moisture clinging to it, wait a couple days to check for watering again and hit “snooze” on planta.

Thanksgiving cactus, beautiful flowers and a pretty low maintenance plant. Plus the flowers come in many colors.
Zz plant, as long as you are careful not to over water it, this is a super easy plant and comes in many varieties! I’m partial to the raven.
I’ve also found cactus \& succulents to be pretty low maintenance. As long as you put them in the correct substrate and provide the necessary light. I almost never have to think about mine.

Get your starter plants for the green escape for excellent plants and crazy good prices. I always buy starter plants because I love to watch them grow. I have just under two hundred, mostly philodendrons. I started about four years ago and some of my babies are unbelievable now!! Another amazing nursery is Orange Lake. Welcome to the awe inspiring world of house plants!! 🥰🥰
