# hello all! wondering if anyone can help. I’ve had this large lady for…

hello all!

wondering if anyone can help. I’ve had this large lady for 1+ years now. Have been through the cycle of winter leaf loss once already (but in a different house). This time round it’s losing a lot more leaves than before and now two of my leaves have ‘snapped’. Is it bad placement? Watering issue? This is a south facing window - when the sun shines its full sun!

Any help would be appreciated 💛

Alocasia Zebrina :-)

Is that a mirror on the left side of the photo?
If it is, does the sun hit it?
I would be concerned that the reflection from the sun on the mirror could burn the plant. I’ve seen it happen in Arizona with a window.

If they’re just bending it may be overwatered or just too heavy.

Alocasia Zebrina plants go dormant when temperatures drops and daylight is less with shorter days. Going dormant won’t hurt the plant. The leaves will drop. I make sure my zebrina gets 10-12 hours of very bright indirect light with grow lights. It put out a new leaf in December. My room temperatures are about 70°F and above when I’m cooking.

I carefully watch the watering needs. Zebrinas don’t respond well when the soil completely dries out. I water when the top 1 inch of soil dries out. I also fertilize with diluted fertilizer and add SuperThrive plant vitamins. The potting mix is the coconut coir fine coconut husk mulch it came in. I never repotted because it has grown well despite some neglect.

I recommend checking the temperature near the window.
Ensure it is getting 8-10 hours of bright indirect light. (Check the intensity of the light it’s getting in your area. )
Water before the plant completely dries. Good luck 🍀 🪴
