Any advice on how to put my Mayoi on a moss pole?

Hi all! I’m pretty new to moss poles. I just picked this fella up from the nursery and he’s pretty crazy looking as far as his stem goes! I was thinking of putting both the pot the plant is in and the moss pole into a larger pot together with stones or gravel to support them when the new stem portion that’s growing upwards develops aerial roots. Any thoughts or advice?

That's pretty much what I would do to get this started on a pole.
