# Excited to see the new leaf unfurl but what would cause the brown…

Excited to see the new leaf unfurl but what would cause the brown spots? Have only had for about a month and it’s still in the nursery soil. I don’t think I’m overwatering and the peat based soil stays moist quite a while. I plan to change it to a chunkier mix soon.

I’d blame the peat soil. This “rust” seems to show up on philodendrons whose roots stay too moist. Once you get that chunky soil sorted out, the new growth should be just fine
