I propagated this pothos in water and moved it to dirt months ago and I recently noticed that the leaves were drooping and the stem was flimsy. So I’m skipping the propagation in water and putting them in dirt. (There are several cuttings) Wish me luck! I’ll post an update later

You have to slowly get used to soil and slowly decreasing the amount of water you give it and when you first put it should have been watered with a crazy amount of water then slowly decrease the amount of water. And you would have had granteed success with propagation, just by sticking the cuttings directly into soil. And water propagation is the worst way to propagate a plant if you want success with propagation, due to the low success rate of this method.

Would using an opaque jar work to help not shock them when you put them into soil? I’ve not prop’d my pothos yet but my manjula has started getting a good sized vine in her it might be time.

Thanks! Looks like I need to get back to work with them

. I disagree with the first comment that water propagation has low success rate. Water propagation is successful. Just search the app and internet. You don’t have to worry about pests or microorganisms, including bacteria and fungus, found in soil. The occurrences of root rot is significantly higher in soil that growing in water. The rot in water is typically from carrying bacteria over from the soil, not disinfecting the cutting with peroxide, or not cleaning the prop water when needed.

The latest pots are too big. They have too much wet soil. The plant can’t use up all the water in the pot between watering. So, the roots will be in standing water too long and rot. Starter nursery pots and small pots are sized for the short roots on new props. It’s better to put one or two cuttings in a small pot until the roots are established. Then, combine several small plants into a larger pot at a later time. My photo shows rooted cuttings of my Syngonium Three Kings propagated in soil outside several weeks. I plan to combine them into one large pot.

Co-sign with Sunny. Pothos that size would be okay in a 3 or 4in nursery pot for a while.

When repotting, the pot size should be around 1-2in larger than the root ball. I would recommend the smaller size for starter plant like this so the roots can get established.
