# Hello! This is a golden pothos I got as a free gift from an Airbnb 2…

Hello! This is a golden pothos I got as a free gift from an Airbnb 2 months ago. It was water propagated and came in a grimy old vanilla bottle. Had some root rot so I pulled it off and put into an old wine bottle instead. Grew great healthy roots and I finally planted it in soil yesterday. MY QUESTION: is this girl gonna be okay? I live in OH and it’s getting much colder and we’re getting a lot less light. I did a little research before I planted her and did find out I should wait until spring but I honestly didn’t want her roots to get any bigger or risk something happening to her in the water. Does anyone have experience with planting water propagated pothos in the winter and how did you succeed?

I do have a sibling of the same plant that is still being water propagated because she also had bad root rot and needs to establish good roots.

You can put it in soil, now. Place it under a grow light for at least 12 hours a day. Keep it away from cold drafts or cold rooms. Ideally, planting in spring is preferred because it’s the start of the growing season which means the roots are growing faster. Also, some plants go into dormancy in colder months. Pothos will continue to grow. It may be at a slower rate until spring.

What if I don’t have a grow light? Like will it not survive? I’m not sure if it’s in the budget right now. It is in the part of my house that gets the MOST light

No they can survive in dark and the variety of golden pothos you have is global green. They are hard to kill plants that can survive in any light that isn’t long exposures to direct sunlight.

They can survive without a grow light. Keep it in the room with most light, as you are doing. Less light means slower growth. There will be large gaps between the leaf nodes and leaning towards the light source if it’s not getting enough light. 🍀🪴

this looks to me more like a global green or lemon meringue pothos! it’s beautiful!

Those are varieties of Golden pothos.
