# Help! I’ve been trying to water propagate my pothos for maybe two or…

Help! I’ve been trying to water propagate my pothos for maybe two or so months now and I have been waiting for secondary and/or tertiary roots to show up, but they haven’t shown up yet and I think my cutting roots are starting to develop some rot. At least, some of them are starting to go all dark and brown and squishy. What should I do?

How often do you change the water?

Typically I try to do it at least once a week or so (but I do sometimes occasionally forget and do it later), would changing it more often help?

Weekly is good enough.

Hi I throw a tiny peace of egg shell and it works for me, on the rotting part I’d chop off and try again

Totally forgot about that, sorry. Here are some looks at the roots, you can see the dark tips. I’m supposed to be changing the water today, if you notice the water is a bit dirty. Any ideas on what to do that might help my cuttings survive would be much appreciated.

Peroxide drops. Also make sure you have nodes or it’s pointless.

I dont change my water at all. I used to, but the pothos i put in changed water would die. Now, I use the same water for multiple pothos cuttings and never change it for months. It works because of hormones or something, ill even jar it to use for the next time i wanna propagate. I believe it works, putting a new cutting in used water always has it root so much faster for me.

Make sure its in a warm place. I have it in my kitchen. If its rotting you need to clean off the bacteria with a paper towel, maybe cut some off, and let it dry. If its rotted into the node, its dead and gone, it will never grow.

I swear be these drops!! They are absolutely amazing save no I’m just getting paid by anyone?? A two ounce bottle lasted just shy of a year!! It is good to use when repotting also it reduces the amount of shock ⚡️
