# I bought this plant from Home Depot about three months ago and do not…

I bought this plant from Home Depot about three months ago and do not remember what the label said it was.

When I first bought the plant, it was leafy with purple flowers and I planted in my backyard a few days after purchase. Now that it’s been growing for a few months in the ground, the purple flowers fell off and have been replaced with ones that are very tiny and the leaves have turned to sort of like soft but stiff…ish spines.

Honestly, the plant looks nothing like it did when I bought it and I’m wondering if someone with more experience with plants can help me identify it.

To help identify it, I’ve checked Google Lens, the Planty and Planta apps, and a Google image search but there are too many results for me to truly know what this is. I’ve included two photos 1) when I planted it a few days after purchase and 2) the plant a few months later.

I hope someone can help identify it so I know how to take care of it. I thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

It looks like a pencil cactus

I thought about that too but when I look them up i don’t see any that are with purple flowers like I see in my first photo. It’s hard to believe those photos are of the same plant just months apart with growth.

I also thought that maybe it could be a fire stick cactus since it looks to have some red/orange color on the stems but again the purple flowers are throwing me off.

The search continues…
