# Hi. I got this at a reptile show from a guy who buys plants he thinks…

Hi. I got this at a reptile show from a guy who buys plants he thinks will look good in terrariums but doesn’t know anything about them. Planta doesn’t suggest anything at all that even remotely resembles it. I’m new to house plants, but I am thinking an alocasia of some kind? The leaf tops are very textured and I pulled down a new leaf that just opened so you can see it.

Hi. This looks like an alocasia Jackie. They are toxic to pets and humans, not sure about reptiles but until you find out I wouldn’t put it in with anyone.

Oh no. Not putting them in with my pets. Although that is what turned me on to keeping house plants was how well my bioactive setups were doing. This is for my own use and I’m not sharing 😆

And yep, that looks exactly like it. Thank you. I went through all kinds of alocasia pictures and leaf id charts and couldn’t figure it out. Planta never even once suggested anything from the alocasia family.

I just got one myself and it’s very young compared to yours. Since he didn’t know much I hope you got a great deal on it

I believe when I added mine I had to force it to choose what it was. It kept trying to tell me it was something else that didn’t even look like it. It’s so distinctive I was surprised it didn’t pick it up correctly

I think it was $10 or $12. I almost missed it too as it was the only one and buried under a ton of other plants.
