# Why does Planta ID my Rose Painted calathea as a Monstera? I stumbled…

_Posted by Lynda on 2024-04-12_

Why does Planta ID my Rose Painted calathea as a Monstera? I stumbled onto that when I was trying to shorten the watering times since she is getting too dried out. Two questions: is she really a Monstera and how do I fix her watering times so she doesn’t dry out and leave me? 😂 TXS.

The planta id isn’t fool proof but this is definitely a Calathea and not a monstera. Do you have the correct pot size, soil type, near vent etc selections put in her plant info section? That helps ensure it gives the most accurate watering needs. However if it has all of that and it’s still drying out too quickly, I would check the roots and see if it’s root bound. That can make it have more roots vs soil which means it dries out quicker.

Also, I have completely filled out all the information that Planta asks for and it is all correct. So my next question is how do I shorten the watering time for her? I did it for one of my other plants once before but now can’t seem to do it again. My brain seems to be on vacation! TXS for all of your help.☺️

Hmmm I’m actually not entirely sure on that one bc I always have to snooze my plants I’ve never had it go too long in between watering lol

I seem to be caught between a rock and a hard spot because when I took her out of her pot, she had two major roots, but other than that, nothing else. I would definitely say she wasn’t ready to be repotted so I put her back into her little 2” pot.

One time I made planta shorten the time between watering by placing my plant in a window w more light even though I didn’t actually do it. And I said it was in a smaller pot but u can’t really do that if it’s in a 2 in pot lol

I just reread my post and hope that you didn’t think I was saying you were stupid… Far from it. I was just laughing at the situation and your comments. Thanks again.💚🪴😉

So sorry…I will have to be more careful about my posts. I learned something from this and will be more careful about what I write in the future. 😁
