# I finally got a hoya with leaves smaller than my Hoya Mathilde. It’s…

I finally got a hoya with leaves smaller than my Hoya Mathilde. It’s a Hoya Tengchongensis that has been on my wishlist since last year. The price for them are always high. So, they are usually sold in 2-node or 4-node cuttings. I found this healthy one in my price range and it was rooted.

I’ve read they don’t travel well during shipping and could drop leaves or even die on arrival. So, I avoided ordering during the hottest and coldest times of the year. I bought it in March and it arrived in great condition. I was cautiously optimistic. It did not suffer from travel stress or stress from entering a new environment.

It started to put out a new branch with adorable micro leaves!😍 It’s my hoya with the tiniest leaves. I placed it next to a Hoya Mathilde and a Hoya Curtisii for size comparisons. The leaves are slightly smaller than the leaves on my Hoya Curtisii.

I have no tricks. I keep several outside. I’m giving them morning light until 10 am. They are in bright shade the rest of the day. I fertilize every two weeks with 50% diluted Miracle Gro fertilizer plus Superthrive plant vitamins.

They are getting lots of rainwater from repeated storms the last two months followed by high winds that dry the chunky soil very quickly. So, no issues with root rot as yet. Aphids, snails and fuzzy caterpillars are my current pests.

I keep the little leaf ones inside about 6 inches from very bright grow lights.

Goodness. Another Hoya I want but don’t have room for!

I understand. I have them everywhere. It was impossible to ignore a buy-one-get-one-free close out sale at Gardino Nursery. Half price plants are the best!😁
