Water changes
Marimo moss loves water - especially clean water - so whether you keep your pretty Marimo in a bottle, bowl or in an aquarium, you need to change the water from time to time.
Make sure the water temperature never gets higher than 25 °C / 77 °F. If necessary, you can actually place the bottle/bowl in the refrigerator during the warmer months. — Planta tip
If your Marimo lives in a bottle/bowl
Carefully lift up your Marimo moss ball and place it in a safe spot
Pour out all the water and, if needed, clean the bottle/bowl
Fill your bottle /bowl with clean tap water
Carefully roll your Marimo between your hands
Clean your Marimo ball by rinsing it under a soft jet of water or by gently squishing it a few times in a bowl of clean water.
Put your Marimo back in the bottle /bowl
If your Marimo lives in a filtered aquarium
Carefully lift up your Marimo moss ball and place it in a safe spot
Pour out 25% of the water and if needed, clean the aquarium
Fill the aquarium with clean tap water
Carefully roll your Marimo between your hands
Clean your Marimo ball by rinsing it under a soft jet of water or by gently squishing it a few times in a bowl of clean water.
Place your Marimo back in the aquarium
Tap water usually works just fine, but if your Marimo is placed in an aquarium you also might want to dechlorinate the water. — Planta tip
