Potting soil and drainage

A good all-purpose potting mix consists of several different ingredients to help your plant's roots to breathe and to absorb water and nutrition. Some plants need a few extra air pockets in the soil. These will help prevent issues like root rot and water repellent soil.

To help your plant breathe easier, you can look for an all-purpose potting soil with added inorganic drainage components like perlite, pumice, grit or small-sized LECA.

You can also add the drainage yourself to your all-purpose potting mix. Choose an inorganic amendment, as mentioned above, and add around 20% to the all-purpose potting soil. Mix it well and repot your plant into its new fresh soil!
